The artistic platform Syn+Ergasia participates in the three-day activities of the CleanBio Athens program.
The CleanBio Athens project is supported by the Municipality of Athens within the framework of the Youth Climate Action Fund. It is in collaboration with the cultural organization REVMA | A Moving Creative Society and the University of West Attica, through the Laboratory of Mild Forms of Energy and Environmental Protection.
The performance aSYMmetric grouND is a multisensory walking performance created by the participants of the meta-Plato Lab workshop, with themes: The body as part of the natural landscape / Curvature in relation to linear progression. The performance is a work in progress and part of the meta-Plato Lab initiative, a research on the sustainability of the Park of Akadimia Platonos.
Balancers
A wandering troupe searches for the ruins of its lost art in the images of the landscape. It converses with the roots of the trees and the grooves of the rain. It focuses on the horizon, beyond logic, and perceives the world beneath the ground, beneath human feet. As a collective body, it condenses and expands, is carried away and resists, comments and expresses. Like a priesthood of a non-human religion observing the microcosm of the park. Without judging or condemning, it listens to life and history.
Linearity VS Curvature
The workshop and performance focus on the influence of the landscape on humans. According to Plato’s beliefs, the natural environment affects the human soul, thought, and political organization. Questions arise such as: How do asymmetry, curvature, and endless connections in a chaotic natural complex affect our lives? Whom, how many, and how much does imposing symmetrical structures on nature serve? How can human linear progress justify the cutting down of hundreds of trees in an era where the climate crisis and global warming threaten citizens with unusual and prolonged heatwaves?
Although the nature of the forest, the incomprehensible politics of its flora and fauna, does not align with the spirit of the times that demands things to be perfect, flattened, and utilitarian, the performance “aSYmmetro edaFOS” invites us to experience the value of the environment. Walking through the park, among some of Athens’ most important historical monuments, we open our senses and bodily-instinctive abilities to experience collectivity and interaction as a state of being.
