This is a multifaceted event where Emilia Bouriti, together with the Syn+Ergasia Art Platform, in collaboration with the Municipality of Aspropyrgos and the Municipality of Mandra–Idyllia, invites rural women from five cities of Attica — Aspropyrgos, Mandra, Vilia, Erythres, and Acharnes — with the aim of honoring and awarding women farmers and livestock breeders.
The event includes the women’s personal narratives, audiovisual presentations, and performances of Arvanitic and local traditional songs. It simultaneously highlights the vital role of women farmers both in the past and present, as they have always toiled to feed the population, and emphasizes the need to support peri-urban agriculture and animal husbandry.
The following rural women are being honored:
From the Municipality of Aspropyrgos:
Dimitra Mouzaka – Tsokani, Xanthi Tsigkou – Pappou
From the Municipality of Mandra–Idyllia:
Aikaterini Zevgili – Gioka, Vasiliki A. Kountourioti, Katerina Sterpi – Sotiropoulou
From the Municipality of Acharnes:
Katerina Gazoraki – Kontogianni
The event is accompanied by the Mandra KAPI Choir, under the musical direction of Vanessa Kalkani.
Arvanitic songs are performed by: Mary Avraam, Eleni Dara, Maria Kapsala, Koula Liosi, Kaiti Neroutsou, Katina Neroutsou, and Katina Peppa – Routi.
Participants:
The Agricultural Association of Aspropyrgos, the Agricultural Cooperative of Erythres, and the Livestock Breeders Association of the Attica Region “Saint George”
