Railway Memories
Participatory Video Performance
A work by Emilia Bouriti | Syn+Ergasia Art Platform
A unique connection between railway lines and the history of the Pontic Greeks is captured in Railway Memories by Emilia Bouriti. In collaboration with the Pontic Community of Aspropyrgos, the director conveys the concept of displacement as both individual and collective memory. Pontic women recount their stories of forced relocation in 1949 from the Caucasus, through the vast Soviet railway network, to Aspropyrgos, where they eventually settled. For the artist, the railway lines of the freight station resemble the neurons of a body that endures, holds, and transmits individual and collective memories. Created as part of the international project Amoli, in collaboration with the Municipality of Aspropyrgos.
